New surgery approach may cut recovery time for pancreatic cancer patients

NCT ID NCT05843877

First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tests if removing the whole pancreas and transplanting the patient's own insulin-making cells is better than standard partial removal for people with pancreatic cancer who are at high risk for a serious complication called a pancreatic leak. About 32 adults with suspected or confirmed pancreatic cancer and a soft pancreas with a narrow duct will be randomly assigned to one of the two surgeries. The goal is to see which approach leads to faster recovery and earlier start of additional cancer treatment.
