First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study tested two methods of giving a nerve block to control pain after lumbar spinal fusion surgery. 52 adults having elective surgery received either an ultrasound-guided or a surgeon-placed block using a mix of numbing medicine and a drug that prolongs pain relief. The goal was to see which method works better to reduce pain and the need for strong painkillers like opioids.
