New nerve blocks could reduce opioid use after weight loss surgery
NCT ID NCT06841783
Summary
This study compared two different nerve-block techniques for managing pain after weight loss surgery in obese patients. Researchers tested whether an ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block (ESPB) or a modified thoracoabdominal nerve block (M-TAPA) provided better pain relief with less need for opioid painkillers. The trial involved 40 patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, randomly assigned to receive one of the two nerve blocks before surgery.
