Which nerve block cuts hip surgery pain best?

NCT ID NCT06842342

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested three types of nerve blocks—sacral erector spinae, pericapsular, and lumbar plexus—to see which provides the best pain relief after hip surgery. 75 adults received one of the blocks along with general anesthesia. Researchers measured how much morphine they needed in the first 24 hours and their pain scores. The goal is to find the most effective block to reduce pain and opioid use.

Active substance

nerve block (lidocaine and bupivacaine)

What this could lead to

If one block works best, it could reduce pain and morphine use after hip surgery, leading to faster recovery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with 75 people. Results may not apply to everyone, and nerve blocks carry risks like bleeding or nerve damage.
