Breathing through the pain: new study tests which drug helps rib fracture patients breathe easier

NCT ID NCT04928300

Summary

This study compares two pain medications (dexmedetomidine and ketamine) for adults with three or more broken ribs who are not having surgery. Researchers want to see which drug better preserves the strength of the main breathing muscle (the diaphragm) while effectively controlling pain. The goal is to help patients breathe more comfortably and recover better during their hospital stay.
