First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two types of nerve blocks—coeliac plexus block and splanchnic nerve block—to see which one reduces pain better in adults with upper abdominal cancer. Forty-four participants will receive one of the procedures and be monitored for pain, opioid use, and quality of life over three months. The goal is to find a safer, more effective way to manage severe cancer pain.

Active substance

nerve block procedure (alcohol injection)

What this could lead to

If this works, it could offer a better way to manage severe cancer pain, reducing the need for strong painkillers and improving quality of life.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 44 participants. The results may not apply to everyone, and nerve blocks carry risks like bleeding or nerve damage.
