New pain block method may cut opioid use after lung surgery

Summary

This study tested two different numbing techniques for pain after video-assisted lung surgery. 176 adults received either an intercostal block with long-acting liposomal bupivacaine or a paravertebral block with standard bupivacaine. The main goal was to see which method reduced the need for opioid painkillers in the first 48 hours after surgery.
