First seen May 01, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a continuous injection of a numbing medicine (ropivacaine) near the surgical cut could improve diaphragm function and reduce lung complications after upper abdominal surgery. The study planned to include 88 people having liver surgery, but was stopped early with only 31 participants. The main goal was to measure diaphragm strength using a sniff test.
