New approach to ease pain after major surgery could reduce need for strong painkillers

NCT ID NCT05897385

Summary

This study tested whether applying a local anesthetic (lignocaine) directly inside the abdomen during major gynecologic surgery helps reduce pain afterwards. It involved 112 women undergoing open abdominal surgery, comparing the anesthetic to a placebo. The goal was to see if this method could lower pain scores and reduce the need for strong opioid painkillers like morphine, which often cause side effects.
