New nerve block could ease pain after stomach surgery

NCT ID NCT07496086

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares a new nerve block (EOIB) to a standard combination of blocks for pain after laparoscopic stomach removal. 100 adults undergoing this surgery will be randomly assigned to receive one of the two blocks. The goal is to see if the new block is as good at reducing pain and opioid use, and if it improves recovery quality.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

nerve block procedure (external oblique intercostal block)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simpler, effective option for pain relief after stomach surgery, potentially reducing opioid use and improving recovery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial (100 people) comparing two nerve blocks, so results may not apply to everyone. The new block might not work as well as expected, and any nerve block carries risks like bleeding or infection.
