New catheter method challenges epidurals for Post-Surgery pain

NCT ID NCT01552226

Summary

This study compared two standard methods for controlling pain after colon or rectal surgery. Researchers tested whether a simpler method using a local pain medication catheter placed near the surgical site works as well as the more complex epidural method. They measured patients' pain levels and their need for extra pain medication over several days after surgery.
