New study aims to find best pain relief after back surgery

Summary
This study looks at two different methods to control pain after lower back surgery: a nerve block injection or pain medicine through an IV. About 100 adults having elective lumbar spine surgery will be randomly assigned to one of these groups. Researchers will use a special monitor that tracks heart rate to measure pain levels and see which method works better.
