Scientists probe Brain's Pain-Killing switch using hot and cold

NCT ID NCT07395869

Summary

This research study aims to understand how the brain naturally reduces pain, a phenomenon called 'offset analgesia.' Researchers will test if this pain-relief effect works with cold temperatures as it does with heat. The study involves 30 healthy adults who will have small areas on their forearms exposed to controlled hot and cold stimuli while rating their pain. The goal is to map how pain and itch signals are processed, which could inform future pain management approaches.
