New pain block may reduce opioid use after colon surgery
NCT ID NCT03827291
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 04, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study looked at 35 adults having laparoscopic colon surgery to see if a quadratus lumborum (QL) block—a numbing injection between abdominal muscle layers—controls pain better than the standard epidural. Researchers measured total opioid use over 48 hours and pain when coughing. The goal was to find a simpler, effective pain management option.
