New nerve block could slash pain meds after cancer surgery

NCT ID NCT07263165

Summary

This study is testing if adding a drug called dexmedetomidine to a standard numbing injection (a nerve block) works better for pain relief after major abdominal cancer surgery. It will involve 54 adults having surgery for cancers like stomach or liver cancer. The main goal is to see if this combination reduces the total amount of strong opioid painkillers patients need in their first day after surgery.
