Smart bandage aims to stop dangerous bleeding after heart surgery

NCT ID NCT05292326

Summary

This study tested a new medical device called PacePress, which is a special, electronically-controlled bandage. It was designed to apply steady, even pressure to the surgical site after patients get a heart device like a pacemaker implanted. The goal was to see if this 'smart bandage' could prevent serious bleeding and large bruises (hematomas) better than the standard bandage, especially for patients at high risk for bleeding because they take blood-thinning medications. The trial was terminated and did not complete its planned enrollment.
