Heart-Lung machine part may raise bleeding risk during surgery

NCT ID NCT05588011

First seen Apr 18, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looked at how two different oxygenators (artificial lungs used in heart-lung machines) affect platelet function during open-heart surgery. Platelets are blood cells that help stop bleeding. The researchers measured platelet function in 68 adults having heart surgery to see if one oxygenator type causes more bleeding problems. The goal is to help doctors choose safer equipment and improve patient care.
