VA tests High-Tech exercise to help veterans walk past leg pain

NCT ID NCT06003855

Summary

This VA study is testing a new way to guide exercise therapy for veterans with peripheral artery disease (PAD), where blocked leg arteries cause painful cramping when walking. Instead of using pain to decide when to stop and rest, the new method uses a sensor to monitor oxygen levels in the calf muscle to prevent damage. The goal is to help patients walk farther and be more active without harming their muscles, potentially leading to a better national exercise program for veterans.
