New surgery aims to cut cancer risk without hormone loss

NCT ID NCT01608074

Summary

This study is testing a specific, less invasive surgery for women with BRCA gene mutations who are at high risk for ovarian cancer. The surgery removes the ends of the fallopian tubes, where this cancer often starts, while leaving the ovaries intact to preserve natural hormone production. The goal is to see if this procedure can effectively prevent cancer for women who are unwilling or unable to have their ovaries removed.
