Hands-On therapy tested for lung disease: could osteopathic techniques ease breathing?
NCT ID NCT07548216
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding osteopathic manipulative techniques (gentle hands-on bodywork) to standard chest physiotherapy can improve lung function and reduce shortness of breath in people with progressive pulmonary fibrosis. Fifty adults with advanced lung scarring will receive either osteopathic manipulation plus physiotherapy or physiotherapy alone for four weeks. The goal is to see if the combined approach offers extra relief for breathing difficulties.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
osteopathic manipulative techniques
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a gentle hands-on therapy to help people with progressive pulmonary fibrosis breathe easier and improve their daily comfort.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-stage study (50 people) testing a complementary therapy, not a cure. The benefits may be modest or not better than standard physiotherapy alone.
