Daily pill vs. monthly shot: race to stop hidden heart disease in kids
NCT ID NCT05693545
Summary
This study aims to find out if taking penicillin by mouth twice daily is as effective as getting a monthly penicillin injection at preventing latent rheumatic heart disease from getting worse. It involves about 1,000 children and teenagers, aged 5 to 17, who have been diagnosed with this early-stage heart condition. The goal is to see if the easier oral treatment can prevent disease progression just as well as the standard injection over two years.
