Scientists test if a common sugar feeds bad gut bugs

NCT ID NCT07162662

Summary

This study aims to understand how taking a sugar molecule called sialic acid changes the community of bacteria in the gut, especially focusing on potentially harmful types. Researchers will give sialic acid to 42 healthy volunteers and analyze their stool samples before and after to see how their gut microbes change. The goal is to gather knowledge that could one day help prevent complications after colon surgery.
