Salt pills could boost fluid removal in heart failure patients
NCT ID NCT04334668
First seen Feb 25, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study tests whether giving oral salt tablets along with standard IV diuretics helps hospitalized heart failure patients get rid of excess fluid more effectively while protecting kidney function. About 67 adults with acute heart failure and fluid overload will receive either salt pills or placebo during their hospital stay. The main goals are to see if the salt helps with weight loss (a sign of fluid loss) and keeps creatinine levels stable.
