First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether taking oral progesterone (200 mg daily) can reduce psychological distress in transgender women who have been on hormone therapy for at least 6 months. It also looks at effects on sleep, breast size, quality of life, and heart health. About 40 participants will receive either progesterone or a placebo for several weeks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Progesterone (oral micronized progesterone 200 mg)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a way to improve mental health, sleep, and breast development for transgender women on hormone therapy.

What could go wrong

This is a small early-phase trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Progesterone can cause side effects like drowsiness or liver issues.
