First seen Apr 14, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study tested whether the oral polio vaccine (OPV) could reduce illness and death from COVID-19 and other infections in adults over 50 in Guinea-Bissau. Researchers gave OPV to some households and no vaccine to others, then tracked health outcomes for 6 months. The goal was to see if OPV, which boosts the immune system broadly, could offer protection against the coronavirus.
