Mouthwash study aims to soothe cancer Patients' painful mouth sores

NCT ID NCT07020754

Summary

This study tested whether special mouthwashes containing the amino acids L-arginine or L-glutamine could help reduce the severity of painful mouth sores caused by radiation therapy in head and neck cancer patients. 84 participants were randomly assigned to use one of the amino acid mouthwashes or a placebo rinse three times a day during their treatment. Researchers measured the severity of the sores, pain levels, and markers of healing in saliva to see which rinse worked best.
