First human test of new oral e. coli vaccine

NCT ID NCT01147445

Summary

This early-stage study tested a new oral vaccine designed to prevent diarrhea caused by harmful E. coli bacteria, a common problem for travelers and children in developing countries. Researchers gave 36 healthy adults different doses of the experimental vaccine to check if it was safe and to see if it triggered an immune response. The main goal was to find the highest dose that could be given without causing severe side effects.
