Brush to breathe: simple mouth cleaning cuts deadly pneumonia risk for stroke patients

NCT ID NCT07382089

Summary

This study tested whether a simple, structured mouth-cleaning routine could prevent a dangerous lung infection called aspiration pneumonia in people hospitalized after a stroke. Researchers compared 90 stroke patients who received the special oral care from trained nurses to a similar group who got standard care. The goal was to see if this easy, low-cost nursing practice could keep patients healthier during their hospital stay, especially in places with limited medical resources.
