Could a simple mouth swab with breast milk help babies heal faster?

NCT ID NCT03393832

Summary

This study is testing if a simple oral care treatment helps babies born with gastroschisis, an abdominal wall defect, recover better. Researchers are applying small amounts of the mother's breast milk (or sterile water if milk isn't available) to the baby's cheek to see if it improves feeding tolerance and reduces infection risk. They are observing 27 infants to see if this care helps them start feeding by mouth sooner and leave the hospital faster.
