Could shorter feeding windows help ICU patients recover faster?

NCT ID NCT07270939

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study looks at whether giving tube feeding for 18 or 20 hours a day (with a break) is better than the standard 24-hour continuous feeding for critically ill patients in the ICU. Researchers want to see if these shorter feeding cycles can reduce time spent in the ICU, lower infection risks, and improve blood sugar control. About 150 adults on breathing machines who need tube feeding for at least a week will be randomly assigned to one of three feeding schedules and closely monitored.
