New training and device could help amputees use bionic arms more easily
NCT ID NCT06853938
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing a new muscle training program and a muscle-controlled prosthetic arm for people who have lost an arm above the elbow. Participants will first receive a bone-anchored implant and nerve surgery to improve muscle signals. Then they will use a myoelectric prosthesis and be followed for up to a year to see if it helps them use the arm more in daily life. Only 5 people will take part, so the results are very early.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
myoelectric prosthesis and muscle training protocol
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to better control and daily use of advanced prosthetic arms for people with above-elbow amputations, improving their quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study with only 5 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The training and device may not work well for all users.
