First seen Mar 19, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tests whether using a breath measurement called respiratory quotient (RQ) can help doctors give the right amount of calories to ICU patients on breathing machines. About 200 adults will be randomly assigned to standard nutrition care or care that also adjusts food types based on RQ. The goal is to see if this approach improves survival and reduces time on a ventilator.
