Silicone-Filled eyes put Eye-Measuring tools to the test

NCT ID NCT07731984

First seen Jul 28, 2026 · Last updated Jul 29, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study investigates whether optical and ultrasound biometry can reliably measure the eye's structures in people whose eyes have been filled with silicone oil after retinal detachment surgery. One hundred participants will have their eyes measured before and one month after surgery. The goal is to see if these standard tools still give accurate readings for lens power and eye length when silicone oil is present.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If reliable, these measurement methods could help doctors choose the right lens power for cataract surgery in silicone-filled eyes.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage reliability study, not a treatment trial. The measurements may prove inconsistent or not generalizable to all patients.
