Can a vitamin pill protect eyesight after retinal detachment?

NCT ID NCT06587945

First seen Mar 24, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a daily oral supplement called nicotinamide riboside (a form of vitamin B3) can help preserve vision in people with a specific type of retinal detachment that affects the central part of the retina (macula-off). About 144 adults who need surgery for this condition will receive either the supplement or a placebo for 20 weeks. The goal is to see if the supplement helps retinal cells survive and recover after surgery, potentially reducing vision loss.
