Brain scans may predict eye recovery in optic neuritis patients

NCT ID NCT04448938

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study aims to see if a special type of MRI, called resting-state fMRI, can help predict how well people with optic neuritis (inflammation of the optic nerve) will recover their vision. Researchers will scan the brains of 200 adults with suspected optic neuritis and compare the results to their vision tests taken 6 months later. The goal is to find a way to anticipate recovery, not to test a new treatment.
