First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 35 times

Summary

This study looks at whether using no opioids during knee replacement surgery can help prevent patients from becoming dependent on painkillers later. Researchers will compare two groups: one that gets standard opioid anesthesia and one that gets opioid-free anesthesia with other pain medicines. The goal is to see if avoiding opioids during surgery reduces chronic pain and long-term opioid use. The study will enroll 700 adults scheduled for knee replacement.
