First seen Apr 20, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study looked at whether avoiding opioid painkillers during hip replacement surgery can improve pain control afterward. 80 adults having hip replacement were randomly assigned to receive either standard anesthesia or an opioid-free version using a drug called dexmedetomidine. The main goal was to see if the opioid-free group needed less morphine in the first 24 hours after surgery.
