Honest placebo: could a sugar pill ease ER pain?

NCT ID NCT06408519

First seen Mar 10, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study looked at whether giving patients an open-label placebo (a pill they know has no active drug) can help manage sudden, non-specific pain in the emergency department. 57 adults with acute pain took part. The main goal was to see if this approach is practical and acceptable, not to prove it works. Results will show if patients are willing to try it and if they find it helpful.
