First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests an online program called PRETA, designed to reduce risk factors for eating disorders in pre-adolescents (ages 10-12). The program includes interactive sessions for students, plus materials for parents and teachers. About 1,068 students from schools in Spain will be randomly assigned to either the PRETA program or usual health activities. Researchers will measure changes in eating attitudes and body image after 3 months.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- PRETA Program (online educational sessions for students, parents, and teachers)
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this program could provide a low-cost, scalable way to reduce eating disorder risk in pre-teens, potentially preventing many cases.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively early-stage trial (Phase NA) testing a behavioral intervention, so results may not be conclusive. The program's success depends on school and family engagement, which can vary widely.
