Can a Four-Week online therapy program tame menopause hot flashes?
NCT ID NCT07873177
First seen Oct 14, 2026 · Last updated Oct 21, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
Researchers are testing a four-week, therapist-guided online cognitive behavioural therapy program for menopausal hot flashes and night sweats. The pilot trial enrolls 50 women and individuals assigned female at birth, aged 40 to 65, in Canada. Participants complete weekly online lessons, brief guide meetings, and questionnaires. The study compares those who start the program right away with those who wait four weeks, and it measures whether the program is practical and acceptable, and whether it may ease symptoms, sleep, mood, and quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Internet-delivered cognitive behavioural therapy (ICBT-Meno-VS)
- What this could lead to
- If the program proves feasible and acceptable, it could offer a low-cost, at-home way to manage hot flashes and night sweats, especially for people who cannot access in-person care.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small pilot study of 50 people, so it may not show clear symptom relief or generalise to all menopausal individuals. Online therapy also requires reliable internet and may not suit everyone.
