NCT ID NCT07037654

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial tests whether ondansetron, given as a dissolving film under the tongue, can prevent low blood pressure caused by spinal anesthesia during cesarean sections. 112 women scheduled for elective C-sections will receive either the drug or a placebo before anesthesia. The main goal is to see if it reduces the need for ephedrine, a drug used to raise blood pressure.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

ondansetron lingual film

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple way to prevent dangerous drops in blood pressure during C-sections, reducing the need for rescue medications.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 112 participants. The drug may not work better than placebo, and results may not apply to all patients.
