Heartburn pill may shield cancer patients from Chemo's painful side effect
NCT ID NCT05680870
Summary
This study tested if omeprazole, a widely available heartburn medication, could protect against nerve damage (neuropathy) caused by a common chemotherapy drug called oxaliplatin. Forty-six adults with colorectal or pancreatic cancer receiving oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy were randomly assigned to receive either omeprazole or not, alongside their treatment. The goal was to see if omeprazole could reduce the severity of pain, numbness, and tingling in the hands and feet that often limits chemotherapy.
