Sniff test: scientists probe whether odors reach the Brain's fluid

NCT ID NCT06370845

First seen May 20, 2026 · Last updated May 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early-phase study looks at whether a natural smell can be detected in the spinal fluid of 32 adults (some obese, some lean) after they inhale it. Participants already scheduled for a spinal tap will also give blood samples and breathe in either the odor or a placebo. The goal is simply to understand how smells enter the central nervous system, not to treat any condition.
