First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether applying 5-fluorouracil cream or Carnoy's solution after cyst removal lowers the chance of the cyst coming back. Fifty adults with odontogenic keratocysts in the jaw will be treated and followed for up to five years. The main goal is to see which method leads to fewer recurrences and less nerve damage.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

5-fluorouracil cream and Carnoy's solution

What this could lead to

If successful, this could identify a better way to reduce cyst recurrence after surgery, potentially lowering the need for repeat procedures.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Both treatments have risks like nerve sensitivity issues.
