Eye blood flow camera could spot glaucoma before vision fades
NCT ID NCT05726058
First seen Jul 02, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a special camera that measures blood flow in the retina can help tell the difference between healthy eyes and those with early glaucoma. Researchers will compare images from the XyCAM device with standard eye exams in 150 adults, including healthy volunteers and people with or at risk for glaucoma. Participants also inhale pure oxygen during imaging to see how blood flow changes. The goal is to see if this non-invasive tool can improve early detection of glaucoma.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
XyCAM RI and XyCAM FC (retinal blood flow imaging device)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a new, non-invasive way to detect glaucoma earlier, potentially preventing vision loss.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage diagnostic study, not a treatment trial. The device may not prove accurate enough for widespread use, and results may not change current care.
