Can radiation make immunotherapy work better in kidney cancer?
NCT ID NCT07240610
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This observational study looks at how combining a special type of radiation therapy with immunotherapy might cause tumors outside the radiation site to shrink in patients with metastatic kidney cancer. Researchers will follow 145 patients who are already on immunotherapy and need radiation to one tumor. They will track tumor changes and immune markers over a year to understand the 'abscopal effect' and identify factors linked to it.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ultra-hypofractionated radiotherapy combined with immune checkpoint inhibitors
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors understand how to use radiation to boost the immune system's ability to fight cancer throughout the body.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial, so it won't directly test if the combination works. Results may not lead to new treatments.
