Chemo-Free hope: new antibody tackles rare lymphoma

NCT ID NCT03322865

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests obinutuzumab, a targeted antibody, in 56 people with newly diagnosed marginal zone lymphoma who need treatment but cannot have or have failed local therapy. The goal is to see if this drug can shrink tumors without the side effects of chemotherapy. Participants receive the drug intravenously for six months, then maintenance doses if they respond.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Obinutuzumab (GA101)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a chemotherapy-free treatment option for marginal zone lymphoma that is more effective than rituximab alone.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial (56 participants) with no comparison group, so results may not confirm superiority. The drug may cause infusion reactions or not prevent relapse.
