First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests an experimental oral drug called NXC736 in 73 adults with moderate to severe alopecia areata, a condition causing patchy or total hair loss. Participants are randomly assigned to receive either NXC736 or a placebo for 12 weeks. The main goal is to see if the drug can safely reduce hair loss and promote regrowth.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
NXC736 (oral drug)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a new oral treatment option for people with moderate to severe alopecia areata, potentially helping regrow hair.
What could go wrong
This is an early Phase 2a trial with only 73 participants, so results may not be conclusive. The drug may not work better than placebo, and side effects are still being studied.
