Breath test could be key to feeding ICU patients for survival

NCT ID NCT07457554

Summary

This study is testing if using a measurement from a patient's breath, called the Respiratory Quotient (RQ), can help doctors better tailor nutrition for critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Researchers will compare standard nutrition guidance to a more personalized approach using the RQ to see if it improves survival, shortens ICU stays, and reduces time on a ventilator. The goal is to find the best feeding strategy to help these vulnerable patients recover.
