First seen Jan 21, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study tests whether a special nursing care protocol can prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in 67 adults undergoing on-pump cardiac surgery. One group gets the new protocol, which includes devices to improve blood flow, blood thinners, early walking, hydration, and patient education, while the other gets standard care. The goal is to see fewer blood clots in the protocol group over three months.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
nursing care protocol (including IPC devices, anticoagulant therapy, early identification, ambulation, hydration, and patient education)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a simple, evidence-based nursing protocol to significantly reduce dangerous blood clots after heart surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center study with only 67 participants, so results may not apply to all hospitals or patients. The protocol combines several steps, making it hard to know which part works best.
